House Style Throughout Magazine
You can tell that there is house style represented in the magazine "Kerrang" as the colours maintain the same throughout (yellow, white, black, red). Also, the layout and font of the "Contents" and "Introducing" are exactly the same. This is effective because it shows the pages relate to one another as well as making the magazine look professional. The fonts are similar to each other, which make it easy to see that the magazine pages link together. You can see the pages go together because the images are not dissimilar. By this, I mean that the images look the same - for example, if they include an image of a female wearing a pink top and wearing a lot of red lipstick, it would not be suited to the genre and the rest of the magazine. Instead, they have included a rock band, which suggests the genre is rock - therefore, matching the housestyle throughout "Kerrang" magazine.
The title of the magazine, "NME", is shown at the top of the contents page which is showing the magazine relates to one another. The colours match and continuous throughout the magazine (red, yellow, black, white). This instantly makes the reader engaged as if the colours and fonts were random, it would look unprofessional. Also, it wouldn't be appealing to the audience because they would want the magazine to look appealing, and they wouldn't want to waste their money on an unprofessional, unorganised magazine.
In the magazine "Q", house style is maintained throughout each magazine that they have published/produced. You can see this straight away by the "Q" in the left hand corner in a white font with a red box in the background. Not only do you see this straight away; it is very memorable, which makes it easier to see that this magazine is "Q". The images throughout each of the front page consist of a model placed in the middle of the page, whilst being a close up. This enables you to see the facial expressions quicker, and it shows that these front pages are related to each other. The text is always down the side of the page, with a larger text at the bottom, preferable in the middle of the page. This is effective because it engages the reader and makes it easy to see that these front pages are all from "Q" magazine.
The contents pages throughout the "VIBE" magazine all relate to each other through the use of images, text etc. For example, the letter "V" in the background symbolises the beginning of the word "Vibe", which makes it easy for the reader to notice. It is normally placed in the left hand side, in a transparent aspect. This makes the reader know that these contents pages are from the same magazine. As well as this, the word "contents" as separated into "co", "nten" and "ts". This is done through each contents page that "VIBE has published, therefore, continuing the house style throughout the distribution process. The images vary from a medium shot, close up and a long shot. However, there is always text along the left or ride hand side of the page, showing the features of the magazine.
House style is shown throughout the double page spreads of the magazine "Spin". We can see this by the image, which always covers half of the double page spread. As well as this, the image is in black and white but can vary in a close up and a medium shot. You can see that these double page spreads are from the same magazine as the font of the titles are the same, and in a black font. "Florence and The Machine" and "The Black Keys" are positioned in different places, however, you can still see that these match because they are in the same font, colour and size. At the beginning of the article, there is a circle (black) with the letter (in whitE) of the first word. This is done throughout both of these examples, suggesting that the housestyle has been consistent throughout "Spin" magazine. The colours have also stayed the same, as the only colours that are seen in these double page spreads are black and white. This is effective because no other colour stands out and it doesn't make the pages dissimilar from the usual "Spin" magazine.

Audience Feedback
At the end of creating my magazine, I decided to gather audience feedback so that I could decide whether to make any changes so it would appeal to them more easily. I used the social networking site "Facebook" to gain comments from my target audience. I posted my music magazine, and got these responses, which I thought were useful for improving my product:

Double Page Spread: Flat Plan
I will place my pull quote ("I want to reach no1 so my mum can be proud of me") in the middle of the first page of my double page spread because it will get too tedious with too much text in the middle. Also, on the second page of the double page spread, there wouldn't be enough room to place the pull quote, and there would hardly be any text on the page.

Double Page Spread Article: Final
IT’S TIME FOR EMILY PROUT: WANTING TO
REACH FAME
Here we interview EMILY PROUT: the ultimate indie singer-song-writer dreaming of being no.1
in the charts. She’s won the hearts of many with her exquisite looks and her
bewildered song writing. She will be supporting the band London Grammar next
year on their tour as well as performing gigs in London this month. It’s time
for change. It’s time for EMILY PROUT. Will Emily reach her dream?
So Emily, where did you get your
inspirations?
“Justin Vernon –
he’s in the band Bon Iver and he writes their songs and sings them too. He
inspires me to write songs based on how I feel, and his songs are beautiful. My
mum loves him too, I guess it’s genetic.” Emily laughs.
What is driving you to reach no1?
“I remember watching
“X Factor” when I was a child and listening to some amazing voices. I’ve always
wanted to be in that position and be famous, I guess.” Emily quickly adds, “Oh
but I wanted to be famous for my music, not for doing nothing, haha! I still
want my music to be known, but in a good way.”
Are you looking forward to performing with
London Grammar next year?
“Yes definitely, they are good friends of mine,
especially Hannah Reid. Her voice is amazing, as well as the rest of the band
being talented. She told me I’d have my fans and they’d support me and give me
courage to be happy and reach my dreams.”
Some say that you’re up against London
Grammar? Are you in competition?
“Of course not,”
she shakes her head. “We’re all great friends. Plus, they have so much more
experience and are more likely to reach number 1 anyway. If anything, I’d
support London Grammar all the way and help them too.” “The media portrays
different artists negatively. It’s a shame because they mix up words and spread
words. They just want arguments and entertainment.
What happens if you reach number 1?
“Nothing else
needs to happen. I guess I’ll keep writing and performing songs. Hopefully
another song of mine reaches number 1. Obviously I don’t know if I’m even going
to reach number 1”. Emily laughs.
Being only 19
years old, and having over 1,000,000 hits on YouTube, Emily is determined to be
no1 and inspire others to write songs. She thanks everyone for supporting her
because she wouldn’t be able do it without you.

Contents Page Construction
After this construction, I decided that I did not like the look of my magazine as it did not look appealing and did not match the house style of my magazine. Therefore, I have made the box behind the text "This week" more transparent as well as making the main image brighter as I felt it was too dark, and did not match the front cover of my magazine. As well as this, I decided to change the font of "Free posters" by putting a black box behind it and making the text white. This matches my front page effectively, and I decided to add a "+" to add to the design elements of my contents page. I also found that another magazine used this, and I found this very effective as it adds a dynamic and appealing approach to my magazine. I decided to change the fonts of my contents page as it did not look professional, and it looked as if my target audience was aimed at 12-14 year olds. I decided to add the title of my magazine in the top right hand of my contents page, as I wanted to include this on my double page spread as well. This ensures the house style is maintained and it engages the reader into remembering my magazine.

Double Page Spread Article: Draft 1
IT’S TIME FOR EMILY PROUT: WANTING TO
REACH FAME
Last
year, EMILY PROUT was just
another indie singer-songwriter dreaming of being noticed. Now she wants to up
her game and hit no.1 in the charts. She’s won the hearts of many with her
exquisite looks and her bewildered song writing. She will be supporting the
band “London Grammar” next year on their tour as well as performing gigs in
London this month. It’s time for change. It’s time for EMILY PROUT. Will Emily reach her dream?
She
photographs like a model, which is to say the camera accentuates her bright
blue eyes and her rosy lips. Surely that would gather the eyes of fans? But no,
what you will find is a 19 year old with a uniquely powerful voice who churns
out new songs as if she was in a songwriting race.
We
had an interview with Emily and took the opportunity to ask questions about her
trying to reach the top of the charts.
So Emily, where did you get your
inspirations?
“Justin
Vernon.” She smiles to me. “He’s in the band ‘Bon Iver’ and he writes their
songs and sings them too. He inspires me to write songs based on how I feel,
and his songs are beautiful. My mum loves him too, I guess it’s genetic.” Emily
laughs.
What is striving you to reach no1?
She
swallowed, as if she were about to cry. However, she eventually got the courage
to say “For my mum. I don’t have a father figure in my life. My mum loves
listening to me sing and I love it when she’s happy. I want to reach number 1 so
my mum can be proud of me”. At this point, the crowd feels sympathy and goes
“awww”. She describes her mum being very
ill, and her mum’s dream was for Emily to reach no 1 so she wouldn’t feel like
Emily was alone if she were to pass away. Emily says her mum told her that
she’d have her fans and they would give her the courage to be happy and reach
her dreams.
Are you looking forward to performing
with London Grammar next year?
Emily
wipes her tears and beams with happiness again.
“Yes definitely, they are good friends of mine, especially Hannah Reid.
Her voice is amazing, as well as the rest of band being talented. I feel so
privileged for them to ask me to support their tour. I’m sooo excited!”
Some say that you’re up against London
Grammar? Are you in competition?
“Of
course not,” she shakes her head. “We’re all great friends. Plus, they have so
much more experience and are more likely to reach number 1 anyway. If anything,
I’d support London Grammar all the way and help them too.” Emily goes on to
tell us that there is definitely no competition between them and that the media
portrays different artists negatively. As she believes they mix up words and
spread rumours, which creates arguments and scenes: and this is what they want.
Being
only 19 years old, and having over 1,000,000 hits on YouTube, Emily is
determined to be no1 and inspire others to write songs. She thanks everyone for
supporting her because she wouldn’t be able do it without you.
